Nelson was born in Alabama, the son of a cattle rancher who lived to the age of 101 (his Dad, not him!)
He moved to California in 1972 to pursue a career in Country music. “If I had it to do over again, I would have moved to Nashville instead of LA,” says Nelson, “because the music business here is not as friendly as it is in Music City.”
He worked in the legal profession for many years and returned to writing songs in 2006, a year that he began to travel a lot. His variety of experiences shaped a memory bank of great songwriting ideas. In 2015, he published a song that started him on a serious road to writing contemporary Country music.
Nelson took songwriting classes at The Songwriting School of Los Angeles in 2017, under the tutoring of Rob Seals. He was greatly influenced by the reading of Jimmy Webb’s book, “Tunesmith.” As a result, Nelson founded Words to Music, LLC located in Nashville and Los Angeles.
He soon learned that co-writing had numerous advantages and has partnered with Dan McGowan, Caley Rose, Robert Gray and Kyle Mouser to produce some creative Country and Pop music.
Nelson’s studio is a haven for musicians with a baby grand piano, 3 keyboards, 3 guitars and a well-rounded sheet music library.
Outside of music, Nelson has achieved some significant accomplishments, including serving as International President of Kiwanis International, and Student Body President at two universities.
You can tell he is serious about writing music - his license plate is "SONGC8R" (Song Creator).
“My goal is one that people laugh at,” says Nelson, “But I firmly believe it will happen: To win a Grammy by the year 2022!” We are betting that he will do it!
